Cracking the Code: Understanding Your Energy through Human Design

If you’re anything like me, you have always loved assessments and tools to help you understand yourself better. As an adolescent, these came in the form of magazine or online quizzes that showed you what your archetype or superpower was. In the business world, this usually came in the form of a Meyers-Briggs or Enneagram assessment. All of these certainly have their purpose, some for entertainment and others for deeper self-exploration. But the most powerful system that I have encountered this far to better understand myself, my purpose, and how I thrive is Human Design.

Human Design is a system that was brought forth in 1987. It is a synthesis of many ancient systems including astrology, the Vedic chakra system, the I Ching, and the Kabbalah. Though the common school of thought categorizes these individual systems as mystic, Human Design provides a highly scientific and practical approach to every aspect of your life.

Getting Started

All you need to find your blueprint is your birth information (date, time and location). Similar to astrology, the outcome of your chart is based on what energies were present when you entered the world. This is what determines not only your chart type but also your strengths and challenges. When you’re ready, you can visit one of many free websites to pull up your blueprint. (I’m partial to mybodygraph.com)

The Basics

Once you have your chart, the most important aspects to look for are your chart type, strategy and authority. Your chart type is directly related to your strategy for interacting with life, other people, and the world as well as the themes you experience when you are living in flow or out of flow. Your authority is the center in which you should be making life decisions. This will either be emotional, sacral (gut reactions), splenic (intuition) or by talking it out with someone to hear your response. Internalizing and acting on this information alone will give you the necessary tools to improve your life.

Going Deeper

After reviewing the basic information presented, I would encourage you to get more familiar with the details of your chart. There is so much valuable information such as what works best for your digestion, what environments are most conducive for you, and how to approach your goals most efficiently. If you need assistance in breaking all of this information down, consider getting a full reading of your chart or consulting a professional with basic questions.

Human Design has radically changed my life for the better. Because of its impact, it excites me to share it with anyone I can. So, I would encourage you to check it out for yourself and see what you think!
